@feld Yeah, I started out using salt actually. Was put in charge of managing thousands of digital signage machines. It was the reason I actually started a github account so I could file bugs on Saltstack a long time ago.
I probably prefer chef just because at my current gig I had to REALLY grok it. Learned a lot of the ins and outs, querying for specific servers by really specific criteria, has great learning resources, and because the documentation is really good.
They are all great though!
